Southern Grist Brewing Company Gin Barrel Aged Perpetual Composition – A Master Class In Craft Brewing

Right out of the bat, I have to tell you, this beer from Southern Grist Brewing Company is an absolute treat. Aptly named ‘Gin Barrel Aged Perpetual Composition’, it’s a beverage that exhibits a beautiful symphony of flavors and smells. Firstly, let’s delve into what the brewers themselves have to say about this masterpiece.

What the Brewers Say

To put it simply, a ground-breaking brew. According to the brewers, this beer is solera-style and it’s been aged for nine months in a French Bordeaux fœder, where it gathered its distinct mixed culture. Afterward, it was aged for an additional eight months in gin barrels. Now, if that doesn’t pique your interest, I don’t know what will. Truly a methodological process to achieve this unique taste profile.

A Serving of Aroma, Appearance, and Flavor Impressions

From appearance to smell, to flavor, this beer is outstanding. The aroma, scoring a perfect 12, had that characteristic gin-barrel character. It wasn’t an overwhelming juniper smell; instead, it was more of eucalyptus, a hint of mint, and botanicals. Moreover, the aroma was further enhanced by the citrusy fermentation character, with some Peach Rings adding a tiny pinch of sweetness.

The appearance, although marked lower at three, was nothing short of eye-catching. It was consistently appealing throughout, probably due to its lively acidity that neatly dances across one’s palate.

What about the flavor, you may ask? Well, that deliciousness earned a solid 20. The gin barrel’s minty-menthol quality served as a beautiful accent to its unique flavor. It was like the wood provided a solid yet subtle structure to the tannic taste.

The Noteworthy Mouthfeel

Mouthfeel, I must say, begs special mention. It scored a good five on our scale. You may wonder why. The juniper and gin botanicals in the aroma took on a softer, pillowy feel. A deeper dive brings bright citrus braced by a hint of berry punch. The result was a perfect confluence of vivid gin notes and citrus tones – both soft and pillowy – placed in perfect equilibrium. This blend lets the herbal notes frame the citrus highlights in their best light. And while it does have a big body, it finishes dry, exactly as the same creamy malt featured in the aroma.

Master Class In Precision, Balance, and Energy

The Southern Grist Brewing Company’s Gin Barrel Aged Perpetual Composition is simply a lesson in precision, balance, and energy. It’s a beer that’s clearly made for beer enthusiasts who appreciate the art of craft brewing. This brewery has indeed put its best foot forward with this exceptional beverage, scoring a remarkable 99 on a scale of 100.

Final Say

In conclusion, this beer is deceptively smooth with a complex flavor profile. Its taste is a testament to the pleasure derived from beer when it’s crafted with dedication, passion, and precision. An absolute must-try. Now, off you go to find this brewery and treat yourself to a wholesome beer experience

  1. Olt of juniper but it was present. Cherry, oak, and wine take the edge otherwise. As for appearance, it pours a beautiful golden with a tinge of amber – a truly eye-catching pour.

Flavor-wise, cherry was present again – obviously from the barrels – along with strawberry, wood and stone fruit. For how much was going on, this beer is truly drinkable. We awarded it 25 out of 25.

Wow, this review is glowing! This beer from Southern Grist Brewing Company seems to be a must-try for any craft beer enthusiast. It’s always impressive when a beer receives a high score, but a 99/100 is truly exceptional. The detailed description of the brewing process and the delicious flavor profile has definitely piqued my interest. Excited to give it a try!

  2. Olt of aromatics, instead a subtle hint that will leave you wanting more. The appearance is sublime as well, pretty, hazy, melted golden straw with a small head – almost mimicking the winter thaw. Flipping the coin, taste-trophy for me.

The flavors were balanced and complex – tangy, funky, oak, and vanilla, all dancing on your taste buds in perfect harmony. The fruity and floral notes, courtesy of the gin barrel, add a touch of sophistication and class to this already master class beverage. Overall, Southern Grist Brewing Company has truly outdone themselves with this one, and with a score of 99 out of 100, it’s safe to say that this beer is a must-try for any craft beer enthusiast. Cheers to a job well done!

  3. Injoo to be sure, but a well incorporated gin and tonic mix with juniper, botanicals, and oak. Also, peach, ripe apricot and pear were in that incredible mixed culture alcohol funk.

This beer is truly a masterpiece and shows the level of expertise and care that the Southern Grist Brewing Company puts into their craft. With a near perfect score of 99/100, this Gin Barrel Aged Perpetual Composition is a must-try for any beer enthusiast. Don’t miss out on this master class in craft brewing.

  4. Olt of juniper and other characteristic herbs, it was balanced and satiating to the senses.

The appearance is a clear, bright, and luminous golden orange with a frothy white head. It’s almost as if it’s inviting you to take a sip. And when you do, you’re rewarded with a crisp, slightly tart flavor with subtle hints of oak and botanicals from the gin barrel aging. The mouthfeel is smooth and soft, with a light carbonation that complements the flavor profile perfectly.

Overall, this beer from Southern Grist Brewing Company is truly a master class in craft brewing. It’s no surprise that it scores an impressive 99/100, as it truly deserves it. From the careful brewing process to the distinct and perfectly balanced flavors, this beer is a testament to the art and science of craft brewing. Highly recommended for any beer lover.
