95/100: Peculier Ales Sun is Shining

To begin with, I am thrilled to share my enthusiastic review of the Sun is Shining from Peculier Ales. This is unlike any beer I’ve tasted, scoring an impressive 95 out of 100 – which unequivocally places it in the top-league of special ales I have had the opportunity to sip.

Aroma: 12

First off, if a beer’s aroma captivates your senses, you are going to absolutely love this one. Right from the moment you crack open the bottle. The sweet scents invade the nostrils like a scene straight out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Indeed, ‘Candied oranges and a touch of pine, dominate this homage to all Citra pale ales’; a quote from the brewers themselves. In reviewing this beer, I noticed that the high carbonation did more than just create a satisfying pop and fizz. It ramped up the hop aromas, emphasizing its engaging bitterness. The aroma composition was a delightful symphony that screamed of Fruity Pebbles with New World citrus and pine that was simply intoxicating.

Appearance: 3

Moving on, the beer itself holds a beautiful amber hue with a light foamy crown. There is a certain allure to the color, like the setting sun over a clear sea. Yet, I would argue that the appearance could be improved as there was not enough head retention. As a lover of ales, this is a feature I am particular about. Though it does not affect the taste, the visual aspect adds to the overall experience which in this case could be better.

Flavor: 19

Furthermore, the flavor richness of this beer is enchanting. Coupled with a clean and bready base, the bitterness offers a finish that is pleasant and just on the pale side of the IPA. It’s just a joy to sip. Tropical feels hanging on my tastebuds, brought by the fresh melon and mango notes in aroma that enticingly mirrored in taste.

Mouthfeel: 5

Lastly, Sun is Shining surprised me with its lustrous mouthfeel. This beer presented an old-new-school contrast with its dusty, citrus zest sheen. In the sip, a firm, pithy-citrus bitterness emerged, smoothly and elegantly with an undeniably vintage echo. Its firm but not overtly heavy body made it refreshingly delicious.

To conclude, I found Peculier Ales’ Sun is Shining an exquisite brew teeming with intricate contrasts of illustration and invention. I highly recommend trying this if you appreciate palatable adventures in the world of craft ales. Even as I give it such a high score, my words hardly do justice to the experience of savoring this fine drink. If you’re a beer lover, consider this one a ‘must-try.’ Cherish the lingering aftertastes as the sun continues to shine on your palate
