Ever wondered who’s behind the best beers in Arizona? Well, wonder no more as we toast the victors of the 2023 Arizona Craft Beer Awards. These awards are designed to shine a spotlight on the outstanding suds produced right here in the Copper State. So, grab a brew, sit back, and let’s get to know these champions a bit better.
Top Honors Went To…
Leading the pack, and adding even more trophies to their collection were the master brewers from Stumbling Steer Brewery. They scooped the coveted “Best IPA” award for their Hop Madness Double IPA and the “Best Stout” title for their Dark Horse Stout. But the crowning moment was winning the high-profile “Brewery of the Year” accolade. When accepting the accolade, their Head Brewer, Joe Smith, jokingly quipped, “I think I might start needing a bigger trophy cabinet!”
A Newcomer Hits the Podium
Meanwhile, a new brewery that just opened last year, Desert Sun Brewing, launched itself spectacularly onto the Arizona craft beer scene. It was not only first time entrants in the awards but also first-time winners! They bagged the “Best New Brewery” with their Sun Scorched Ale earning them the “Best Amber Ale” title too.
Unique Awards Go to Unique Brews
Adding some eccentricity to Arizona’s craft beer landscape, Bizarre Brews Brewery was recognized for their unconventional approach to brewing. Their cucumber-infused Refresher Ale broke boundaries, delighting the palate with its crisp, cooling, and lightly tart notes. It scored them the “Most Innovative Brew” title.
And Our Beloved Veteran…
Last but definitely not least, Arizona’s beloved veteran brewery – Big Horn Brewery – known for their consistently high-quality brews, didn’t go home empty-handed. They added the “Best Belgian Ale” title to their cap with their much-loved Prairie Grass Ale. Such was the charm of the golden-hued brew that judges commented on its well-balanced flavor profile, which hinted at citrus, coriander, and caramel.
The Competition Was Fierce
When it comes down to competition, it’s safe to say that the 2023 Arizona Craft Beer Awards had its fair share of high-intensity brew battles. Indeed, the panel of judges had a challenging time selecting winners from the wide array of top-notch entries.
