The State of Texas: A Hub for Craft Beer
Texas is known for its southern hospitality and cowboy culture, but it also has a booming craft beer scene. From Houston to Dallas, Austin to San Antonio, and all the cities in between, Texas is home to some of the best craft breweries in the country, and more are popping up all the time.
Craft beer enthusiasts in Texas are passionate, and it’s not uncommon to see people camping out for hours to get their hands on the latest craft beer release. But, as the craft beer scene continues to grow in Texas, so do concerns about diversity and inclusion in the industry.
In the past, craft beer was seen as a male-dominated industry, but that is starting to change. Women are making their mark in the industry as brewers, owners, and designers of craft breweries.
Women Leading the Way
One example of women playing a prominent role in the Texas craft beer scene is the team behind Red Horn Coffee House and Brewing in Cedar Park, Texas. This brewery was designed by Catherine Cagle, who used her degree in architecture to create a visually stunning space. Brewing team members such as Alex Limon and Caitlin Johnson help create the delicious beers that keep people coming back for more.
Another example is the all-female brewing team at the Friends and Allies Brewing in Austin, Texas. This group of skilled women is led by brewmaster Lara Gilmore and includes Dee Dee Sanchez and Anna Stecker. Together, they create some of the most innovative and flavorful beers in the state.
And then there is Caroline Wallace, who co-authored the book “The Beer Lover’s Texas: Best Brews & Breweries” and helped bring attention to all the great beers being made by Texan women. She’s also co-owner of the Texas beer conference, and one of the driving forces behind the Pink Boots Society, a nonprofit that supports women in the brewing industry.
The Future of Women in the Texas Craft Beer Scene
These women are just a few examples of the growing number of women making their mark in the Texas craft beer scene. By designing, creating, and brewing fantastic craft beers, they are changing the perception of what the industry looks like and what it can achieve.
As the industry continues to grow and expand, it’s important that we continue to support the work of these women and others like them.
