What is Strange Fest Oktoberfest?

If you’re a craft beer lover in the Denver area, chances are you’ve heard of Strange Craft Beer Company. And if you’ve heard of Strange Craft, you’ve probably heard of their annual Strange Fest Oktoberfest celebration. This year marked the eighth year of the event.

The Experience

Upon arrival, you’re handed a beer sample and a pamphlet featuring a map of the festival grounds, listing the breweries and food trucks in attendance.

The outdoor event is held on the edge of Denver’s booming RiNo neighborhood, just a 10-minute Lyft ride from downtown. The Strange Craft parking lot is transformed into a beer lover’s paradise, with booths featuring Colorado breweries pouring up their best lagers and Oktoberfest-style brews. There’s live music all day, and food trucks serving up everything from tacos to bratwursts.

The Beer

Of course, the main attraction at Strange Fest is the beer. With over 30 breweries in attendance, there’s something for everyone. Some of the standout beers of the day included:

  • Strange Craft: Cherry Kriek
  • Ratio Beerworks: Dear You French Saison
  • Mockery Brewing: True to Style Oktoberfest
  • Comrade Brewing: Orange Creamsicle IPA

The Atmosphere

What sets Strange Fest apart from other beer festivals is the community atmosphere. People from all walks of life come together to enjoy a cold one (or several) and some live music. The crowd is friendly and enthusiastic, and the excitement is infectious. Strange Craft founder Tim Myers can usually be found working the crowd, chatting up attendees and thanking them for coming.

The Verdict

If you’re a beer lover in Denver, Strange Fest Oktoberfest should be on your calendar every year. It’s a chance to sample some of Colorado’s best breweries, enjoy some live music, and soak up the community atmosphere. And with tickets coming in at just $30 (including $20 worth of drink tokens), it’s a great deal for an afternoon of fun. See you at Strange Fest Oktoberfest 2020!
