‘Fresh Hops Availability Extended by RipeLocker’

Boosting Distribution

To start with, RipeLocker’s innovative postharvest low-pressure vacuum technology has greatly improved the distribution of fresh hops. Indeed, this year alone, close to 5,000 lbs of fresh hops made it to breweries all over, painting a clear picture of the monumental growth from last year’s 2,000 lbs. This technology has effectively extended the brewing period for fresh hop beers, thanks to growers having the ability to preserve their hop harvest in RipeLockers. This way, craft micro-breweries can continue purchasing quality fresh hops, even long after the traditional harvest season.

Tangible Impact

Moving forward, the impact of this groundbreaking technology from RipeLocker is not just evident in the numbers but also evident with the parties involved. For instance, Oasis Fresh Hop Farms in Washington has been able to store and distribute 4,134 lbs of fresh hops across the nation, with over half of this going to Tree House Brewery, Co. in Massachusetts. Also, Mill 95 Farms in Idaho has been able to send out another 800 lbs.

Making Direct Sales Possible

Furthermore, direct sales from Hop Farms such as Oasis Fresh Hop Farms to brewers have been made possible with the advent of RipeLocker technology. Tyler Sabin, the Hops Manager at Oasis Fresh Hop Farms, pointed out that the partnership with RipeLocker has significantly facilitated the sale of superior quality hops directly to brewers all over the U.S.

Enabling Easy Fresh Hop Pickups for Brewers

Tyler also highlighted that this innovative technology from RipeLocker has made it easy for brewers to pick up fresh hops from the farm, removing all previous obstacles to fresh hop pickups. Tyler says, “We’ve also had great success with larger brewers helping us distribute lockers to their neighbors who didn’t have enough refrigeration space for a full pallet.”

Expansion of Capabilities

Subsequently, RipeLocker has made it easy for farms such as Mill 95 to distribute fresh hops not only across the U.S. but also on an international scale. This is according to Amaya Aguirre-Landa, the Marketing & Communications Manager, Mill 95. It’s important to realize that before RipeLocker, the combination of a lack of proper transportation options and the unpredictability of fresh hops greatly limited the distribution of high-quality fresh hops beyond the Idaho hop-growing region.

Breweries Benefiting

Moreover, several breweries, such as Ghostfish Brewing, Jellyfish Brewing, Coronado Brewing, Harland Brewing, Roadhouse Brewing Company, and HUDL Brewing, are already enjoying the benefits of this RipeLocker technology.

Extending Brewing Seasons and Hops Varieties

Last but certainly not least, Max Shafer, the Brewmaster of Roadhouse Brewing Co., noted: “We love using hops from RipeLockers at Roadhouse because it gives us the chance to extend our wet-hopped brewing season and to mix up varieties that usually cannot be brewed with at the same time due to various variety pick windows.” This versatility has added depth and complexity to the beers they produce, which Shafer confesses is unmatched with any previous brews he’s ever tasted or brewed.
