Jamaica Plain Brewery Unveils Hub for Diversity & Beer

Cheers to Inclusivity and Amazing Beer at Jamaica Plain Brewery!

Hello, my thirsty friends and kindred spirit beer enthusiasts! Get ready to raise your glasses because there’s a new Jamaica Plain Brewery set to make some serious frothy waves. Encapsulating the vibe of Boston’s beloved neighborhood, we’d love to introduce you to Drawdown Brewing – the latest addition to our vibrant culture, and oh, it’s so much more than just another place to knock back a pint!

Brewing a Revolution: Drawdown Brewing’s Inception

Let’s embark on a sudsy journey back to the beginning. Liz Nicol, a passionate home-brewer turned head brewer, and resident of Jamaica Plain, started her concocting journey in the humble settings of her home kitchen. With a friend by her side and an innate love for hops, Liz discovered the magical blend of art and science in the craft of beer making.

As if by fate, her first ever brew, a delectable cream ale, was a roaring success. Who would’ve thought that her 17 years of engineering wizardry would have brewed up such a storm! And just like that, one of Drawdown’s core beers was born.

The name Drawdown Brewing isn’t just catchy, it has a deeper meaning. Borrowing a term from civil engineering, it symbolizes the lowering of water levels – the same action we see when beer flows from kegs. Talk about a metaphor that’s on-brand!

The Dream To Reality Transition

From dreaming under starry European skies during the Euro Cup, Liz was struck with a vision. She envisioned a place where community not only gathered but thrived together, much like those quaint European beer gardens. This beer-based utopia would be built on the foundations of diversity and inclusivity. And so, with a space secured in Egleston Square, the dream of Jamaica Plain’s very own microbrew haven was underway.

But who said opening a brewery was going to be easy-peasy lemon squeezy? Certainly not Liz, who faced the tidal wave of a pandemic. Yet, her resilience shone through, and her dreams were merely put on ice, rather than shelved.

What’s Brewing at Drawdown?

Fast forward to present day, and voilà! Drawdown Brewing flings open its doors, welcoming one and all. What can thirsty patrons expect? A delightful range of eight to ten malt-forward brews on tap from the get-go, that’s what!

Drawdown has anchored its menu with four satiating, year-round core beers: the hoppy New England IPA, the aforementioned hit cream ale, a traditional alt bier, and a rich Porter. But keep those taste buds on high alert for rotating seasonal sensations and specialty brews that’ll tantalize and tease!

Current taproom hours give you the flexibility to sneak in post-work on a Friday or while away your weekends from midday until evening. But hey, there’s more to this spot than just hoppy goodness. Liz has whimsical watch parties on the horizon, bringing together fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race and women’s soccer alike.

And it doesn’t stop there. Coming soon: an arsenal of board games, trivia nights, and a procession of food trucks to satisfy your munchies. Talk about the perfect pairing!

So mark your calendars and sprint to 3204 Washington St for the not-to-miss grand opening (it’s worth canceling your Netflix binge for). Drawdown Brewing isn’t just a brewery opening, it’s the prologue to many incredible stories yet to be told through every pint poured.

Crafting More Than Beer: A Safe Space for All

Stepping inside Drawdown Brewing, you’ll notice something far more special than the glimmer of condensation on a chilled pint glass. You’ve entered an LGBTQ+ safe space, where the diversity of Jamaica Plain is not just respected but celebrated.

Liz, like many brilliants faced with a sea of sameness, recognized the stark lack of diversity in the craft beer scene. So, rather than wait for change, she decided to become the change – creating a minority-owned brew spot that says, “Hey, come as you are, and stay for a beer!”

No matter who you love, how you identify, or what makes your heart beat, know that Drawdown Brewing welcomes you with open arms and an open tap.

Navigating Troubled Waters to Egleston Square

Location is everything, and Egleston Square, now home to Drawdown Brewing, hits the sweet spot. Nestled comfortably in Jamaica Plain, known for its eclectic blend of culture and charm, Liz’s persistent search paid off.

The journey wasn’t smooth sailing, but the community of Jamaica Plain has been nothing short of supportive. People from all walks of life rallied behind Liz’s vision, proving that indeed, there’s a thirst for more than just beer – there’s a thirst for connection and representation.

To the Sudsy Future!

As Drawdown Brewing takes its first steps, the door isn’t merely opened for business; it’s a gateway to a future where craft beer is the golden elixir that bridges gaps, where cheer is plentiful, and where judgment is left at the door.

If ever there was a time to celebrate the power of resilience, innovation, and inclusivity, it’s now. And if that celebration comes with expertly engineered pints of craft beer goodness, well, that’s just the frothy cherry on top.

Join us in saying cheers to Drawdown Brewing, championing diversity one pint at a time!
