Ohio On Tap Week: Celebrating Craft Breweries Sept. 8-17

A Toast to Ohio’s Burgeoning Craft Beer Scene

Craft beer fanatics statewide are on the edge of their barstools in anticipation of the inaugural Ohio On Tap Week, presented by Giant Eagle. Slated for September 8-17, the event is a golden opportunity for users of the popular Ohio On Tap passport app to rake in bonus stamps by attending events at participating breweries and Giant Eagle Market District stores. Boasting an impressive 330 taprooms on its list and a user count of over 42,000, the app is the largest state-level brewery passport app in the U.S.

The Rewarding Adventure of Brewery Tourism

Users of Ohio On Tap app have an exciting adventure of visiting breweries and collecting virtual passport stamps over a three-year period to earn exclusive merchandise provided by the Ohio Craft Brewers Association. Throughout Ohio On Tap Week, the tension hits a peak with dozens of bonus passport stamps up for grabs at events outlined in the app.

“Brewery tourism is booming in Ohio, thanks in part to the Ohio On Tap app,” scored in by Mary MacDonald, executive director of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association. “Ohio On Tap Week offers our seasoned app users an opportunity to revisit some of their favorite breweries, as well as offering newer users a rapid ascent toward their next reward tier.”

Ohio On Tap Week’s Kickoff Party

The week’s festivities will get underway with a grand kickoff party at the Giant Eagle Market District store in the Kingsdale Shopping Center in Upper Arlington. Happening on Friday, Sept. 8 from 5-7 p.m., it will showcase discounted draft beers from a meticulously curated list of Ohio breweries. The first 300 attendees of the party will receive a limited-edition commemorative Ohio On Tap Week glass, signaling the commencement of the beer adventurers’ journey.

Mystery Beer Date Event Series

Adding an exciting twist to the week’s celebrations, the Ohio Craft Brewers Association will premiere the new Mystery Beer Date event series during Ohio On Tap Week. Acting as a playfully enamoring version of speed dating, but with Ohio craft beer, 15 breweries will eagerly attempt to capture the hearts of guests with their special beers and the intriguing tales behind their creation. At the end of the tasting rounds, guests will cast their votes for their beloved beer and the ‘best date’ among the participating breweries. The Mystery Beer Date tastings will happen at various locations from Wednesday, Sept. 13 to Saturday, Sept. 16.

Fresh Hop Beers and Oktoberfest Lagers

Given the time of year, coinciding with the late summer hops harvest and traditional start of Germany’s colossal beer festival, craft brewers will be exceptionally busy releasing dozens of fresh hop beers and Oktoberfest lagers. These special beers offer extraordinary flavors and aromas, exclusively available at this time of year. With the Ohio On Tap app, beer lovers can enjoy these unique craft beers and also gain bonus passport stamps at release events taking place throughout the week, adding to the grandeur of their escapade.
